Happy New Year to everyone! Hope it’s going to be the best year for you yet.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the whole here-are-my goals-for-the-year-and-what-are yours thing. Yes, I know the start of the new year brings lots of promise and a new slate, which I do agree with, but why wait until a new year to set those goals? RobbyBobbyBurtt has written a great post on setting resolutions.
So I’m going really low key with my goals:
reading
My first love! I can’t get enough of reading – I eat books for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’m going to be blogging book reviews this year and the first one will be next week.
writing
I love the Young Adult genre and it will always have a place in my heart. I fulfilled a life-long dream in 2016 when I published Haven River. This year I will be slowly changing focus to adult contemporary romance. Aqua Bay will be published in 2017. I’m currently doing lots of drafting and redrafting and making good progress.
social media
I was dragged (voluntarily!) kicking and screaming into the social media arena last year and getting my head around it all has been challenging. I will be refining my efforts (happily!) this year.
Setting goals keeps us focused and the start of the year is a good time to do this, but if you feel you want to set big goals and refocus tomorrow is just a good a time to start! Please feel free to add a comment about New Year goals generally or any you’d like to share.
Casey, thanks for the shout out. Very kind of you. If there is one thing I have learned about resolutions…don’t be afraid to take the “low key” goals, and set those small steps to get there. I have a reading goal too. I don’t do it nearly enough. I have a very personal reason for this being one of my resolutions too. But specifically, I have literally scheduled 30 minutes a day of uninterrupted reading time. So far, so good. For me, if I don’t put it into my schedule, it won’t happen. Thanks again for the mention. Love your posts. 🙂
Setting low key goals is really important too! Congrats on setting a reading goal – 30 minutes a day is great. That all adds u to 3 1/2 hours a week and very doable when broken down. 🙂
Happy new year Casey! I look forward to Aqua Bay!
Happy new year to you too Rachel! I see you’re well into your editing on your novel and you have a great plan in place.
