What happened on Day 4?

Now I’ve got a plan in place I feel much more focused and was actually looking forward to editing today.

Scenes need conflict and change

Today I reviewed the information from a blog written by Jodie Renner Every Scene Needs A Conflict and Change.

According to this blog, the main ingredients for a good scene are:

  • tension and
  • significant change.

This wee formula is proving to be a bit of a challenge, but is a good double-check to make sure that something is happening in each of my scenes and moving the story forward. I’m writing a contemporary romance so the tension and significant change formula has to be balanced very carefully or else my two love birds will never get it together!

What do you think constitutes a great scene in a book? Do you have any ‘go-to’ resources that you use to guide you through scene-writing?
